The NZ Catholic Bishops Conference have given their support for the upcoming National March for Life on Saturday December 9th, 2017.
In a letter to the March for Life organisers, Bishop Charles Drennan writes “The bishops are pleased to endorse the ‘March for Life’ as a way of raising the nation’s consciousness to the importance of protecting and supporting the dignity of life.”
The Catholic Church have always been strong defenders of the dignity of the human person from conception and upheld that the right to life is the first and most important right.
The “defence of unborn life is closely linked to the defence of each and every human right” Pope Francis highlighted in his encyclical Evangelii Gaudium.
Other religious groups are in support of the March for Life, however only the NZ Catholic Bishops have given an official endorsement. People with a variety of religious, political and philosophical leanings are expected to attend this historical event which marks 40 years since the passing of the Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act of 1977.
